Jason Martin began drumming at the age of 5 and has studied under Mr. William Zervos in Illinois. Jason has participated in Junior High and High School symphonic, marching and jazz bands receiving the Louis Armstrong jazz award in his sophomore year. He has played/recorded in various projects in Illinois, Indiana, California, North Dakota, Nevada, and many other areas. Jason currently keeps a busy live performance and teaching schedule.

Matt Pruim is a 28-year-old pianist who studied under Bev Tysse. He currently performs with the Jason Martin Trio and the Calumet Ridge Jazz Ensemble. He currently keeps a busy live performance and teaching schedule. He enjoys playing funk, soul, blues, and jazz.

Ben Schmidt-Swartz is a self-described member of Chicago’s avant-garde, free-jazz, and creative scene. Schmidt-Swartz released his first record “Mastermind”, co-lead by drummer Nelson Oliva. Schmidt-Swartz and Oliva went on an international tour with “Mastermind”, performing for enthusiastic audiences. Schmidt-Swartz later released a duo recording with AACM drummer Vincent Davis, “Live at Grace.” Most recently Ben has been working on solo performance and composition. He released “Self Quarentet” vols. 1-3 on Bandcamp during the Covid-19 pandemic. The works feature original compositions as well as multilayered improvisations in which Ben plays saxophones, flute, and clarinet.

Ben completed both his master’s degree and bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University. While at WMU Ben had the opportunity to study with Trent Kynaston, and Andrew Rathbun. He also had the opportunity to study and perform with piano legend Fred Hersch, as well as other guest artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Kurt Elling, Donny McCaslin, Ingrid Jensen, and Stefon Harris. Ben has kept ties with the university collaborating regularly with Dr. Chris Biggs, in an improvised saxophone/electronics duo project.

Continuing his relationship to the Chicago scene, Ben continues to play regularly with his mentor and friend Vincent Davis, as well as many other musicians on Chicago’s progressive music scene.
